Macedonian PM Nikola Gruevski welcomed the Serbian initiative for mutual scrapping of passport requirements between citizens of both countries.
“The final decision on this interesting idea will be made after a thorough analysis”, Gruevski said.
On Saturday, Serbia’s interior Minister Ivica Dacic proposed this idea to his Macedonian host Gordana Jankuloska during his visit to Skopje.
The plan envisages that Macedonian and Serbian citizens be able to cross border only with identity cards thus relieving the border crossing procedures.
"The initiative is feasible," Jankuloska said, pointing out that Macedonia supports ideas in favor of faster flow of goods and people with all countries.
Meanwhile, the first to benefit from the new more liberal border crossing regime will be the people from both countries who live within 30 kilometers from the mutual border crossing dubbed Crcorija-Goles.
The two ministers already signed the agreement under which these people will soon be able to cross the border only with ID cards.
Serbia has already signed such special border crossing regime agreements with Bosnia/Herzegovina and Montenegro.
Both Serbia and Macedonia allows entry with ID to all EU citizens.
