The new batch of 148 troops of the country’s Second Mechanised Infantry Squad will be heading to Afghanistan for the 8th rotation within the ISAF mission. This is some one third increase from the previous rotation.
The troops will be stationed in the capital Kabul. Under the command of British army, they will be helping provide security to the chief command of ISAF.
Macedonia kicked off its participation in the biggest NATO-led mission in Afghanistan in June 2006. Last year the country terminated its participation in the Iraqi Freedom peacekeeping force and decided to boost its military presence to Afghanistan instead.
President and Army Supreme Commander Georgi Ivanov, ARM Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Miroslav Stojanovski and other officials will be attending the farewell ceremony.
