Kosovo Press Review - January 19, 2012

Pristina

Koha Ditore

EU envoy Robert Cooper, who is mediating the ongoing talks between Kosovo and Serbia, will visit Pristina and Belgrade next week. Cooper plans to address the disagreement over Kosovo's representation in regional forums. The British diplomat will aim to reach a compromise between the two countries' stances. Serbia wants Kosovo's name to be followed by “according to Resolution 1244”, while Pristina wants to be labeled: “without prejudice to the country's stance on the status of Kosovo”.

ZERI

The European Commission's dialogue with Kosovo over visa-liberalization will begin without a proper roadmap. The roadmap serves as a guide to tell Pristina what it is expected to do in order to join the “white Schengen list.” Analysts express concern that further delays are likely.

EXPRESS

Kosovo’s Prime Minister Hashim Thaci called on the representatives of the Self-Determination (Vetevendosje) Movement to take part in a debate in the Parliament. He said that the opposition should refrain from using the streets to express its opinions, and address its dissatisfaction in the institutions. He also asked Vetevendosje to stop demonizing the Kosovo Police. Despite Thaci's call, the movement refuses to cancel its next protest scheduled for Sunday January 22nd.
