The retrial of the four ex policemen from Republika Srpska charged with murdering more than 150 civilians on Koricanske Stijene in Travnik municipality in August 1992 starts at the end of February.
At the status conference before the Appellate Chamber of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, it was agreed that the retrial of Zoran Babic, Milorad Skrbic, Dusan Jankovic and Zeljko Stojnic, all from Prijedor, would start on Friday, February 24.
One of the indictees, Dusan Jankovic, who has been on the run since the passing of the first instance verdict in December 2010, failed to appear at the status conference. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
His lawyer, Ranko Dakic, said he did not know why Jankovic failed to appear, but that his family has informed him that the indictee will be present at the start of the retrial.
The Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina said there is no evidence to support the claim that Jankovic would show up and requested that the process against him to be separated. The Appellate Chamber of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina would make a decision on this proposal at a later date.
On December 21, 2010, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina passed the first instance verdict by which former policemen Zoran Babic and Milorad Skrbic, were sentenced to 22 years of imprisonment, and Zeljko Stojnic, to 15 years in prison, for the murder of more than 150 Bosniak and Croat male civilians at Koricanske Stijene on August 21, 1992.
By the same verdict, Dusan Jankovic, their commander, was found guilty of having ordered the murders and sentenced to 27 years in prison.
