The foreign ministers of EU member states have decided to extend the mandate of EU representative in Kosovo Pieter Feith.
In a decision announced on Monday in Brussels, the EU foreign affairs council said that Feith's mandate has been extended until April 30.
Feith's mandate was due to expire in late February, and a decision to grant an extension was included in the official conclusions of the Monday meeting of EU foreign ministers.
By extending Feith's mandate, the European Union hopes to give itself a bit more time to reconsider the way in which it will be represented in Pristina in the future, and the decision should be placed in the context of the establishment of the European diplomatic service, Tanjug news agency learned in Brussels.
Alongside his EU mandate, the Dutch diplomat also heads the International Civilian Office, ICO, in Kosovo.
The mandate for Valentin Inzko as EU Special Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina has been extended for a year by the European Council.
Both communities in Kosovo blame politics for the trial of Fatmir Limaj - though from diametrically opposing points of view.
