An eight-year old child has died in Macedonia of complications from the A/H1N1 influenza, commonly known as the swine flu.
The child also suffered from cerebral palsy.
After receiving treatment at home, the child was admitted to the Clinic for Infectious Diseases as tests proved the presence of H1N1 influenza. Despite doctors' efforts and the prescribed therapy, the child died on Saturday, Macedonia's Health Ministry said in a press release.
At the moment, 48 people with confirmed or suspected cases of A/H1N1 are being treated at the clinic, while a total of 30 children are receiving treatment for the seasonal flu at children's hospitals.
Currently, 22 people in Macedonia are confirmed to be infected with the swine flu, the Institute for Public Health says.
Thus far, 8,800 people have been registered with flu infections, and six deaths have been reported - two of the individuals who died had tested positive for A(H1N1) flu, two had type B flu, while the other two were diagnosed with clinical flu-like symptoms, reads the press release.
The Pristina Hospital confirmed on Tuesday that Kosovo has recorded its first death from the swine flu this season, after a woman died from the flu on Saturday.
Both communities in Kosovo blame politics for the trial of Fatmir Limaj - though from diametrically opposing points of view.
