Resources and institutions of South Serbia
Although South Serbia is well outside the cultural mainstream, it would be overstating the case to conclude that there is no cultural life in Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja. Most events concentrate on the regions cultural heritage and its rural way of life.
Cultural centres are the focus of cultural life, providing the necessary resources for the organisation of events.
Education is, in theory provided in both Albanian and Serbian, but in practice not all schools have classes in both languages. Albanian language higher education establishments are in development, with a faculty opened in 2010 and new facilities announced for Bujanovac, and later, Presevo.
Medvedja
- University of Nis, Department of Law and Economics,
classes are held in Serbian and in Albanian.

Bujanovac
- Two secondary schools with total of about 1,000 students.
Classes in both Serbian and Albanian languages.

Presevo
- High school, technical studies.
- Two secondary schools, bilingual.
Culture
- All three municipalities have cultural centres and libraries, but cultural life is very under-developed.
Coalition’s plan to split MP’s job between them is raising eyebrows in the region, where some believe the leaders’ main motive is financial.
The South Serbia region, predominantly populated by ethnic Albanians, lies some 350 kilometres south of Serbia`s capital, Belgrade. In contemporary political language, the term “South Serbia” is understood to refer to the territory of three municipalities - Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja.
