The district court in the town of Doboj ruled on Thursday that Ribic had taken part in the murders of two Bosnian Serb civilians, the illegal arrests of civilians and the burning of houses in 1992.

But he was cleared of murdering three other civilians in Odzak.

Ribic was a member of the 102nd Brigade of the Croatian Defence Council, HVO, in the Odzak area from May to July 1992.

"The evidence showed that the defendant the committed murders of Simo and Pero Ljubicic and the arrests, which was enough to sentence the defendant for war crimes against civilians," said presiding judge Radmila Stancic.

Ribic can appeal against the verdict before the supreme court of Bosnia’s Serb-run entity Republika Srpska and will remain free until the process is completed.
