Custody Extended for the Silos Crimes

The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina has extended custody for eight suspects for crimes against Serb and Croat civilians and prisoners of war in the Silos camp and other places of detention in the territory of the municipality of Hadzic.

The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced that the custody for the suspects has been extended for a month and could last till January 21, 2012.  

According to information from the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the custody was extended to prevent them from influencing witnesses and accessories while on parole.

The Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina recommended that the custody for the suspects be extended for two months, while the Defence proposed that their custody be replaced with restrictive measures.

Mustafa Djelilovic, Fadil Covic, Mirsad Sabic, Nezir Kazic, Becir Hujic, Halid Covic, Serif Mesanovic and Nermin Kalember are suspected of taking part in crimes in the territory of Hadzic, Tarcin and Pazaric between 1992 and 1995.

According to the prosecution, Mustafa Djelilovic was president of the Municipal Assembly of Hadzici, and at the same time president of the Crisis Headquarters and War Presidency of the municipality of Hadzici, Fadil Covic was head of the police station in Hadzici, while Mirsad Sabic was a policeman of that station in Hadzici.

Along with them, suspected of the same crimes are Nezir Kazic, former commander of the Ninth Mountain Brigade of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Becir Hujic, former warden of the Silos camp, Halid Covic and Serif Mesanovic, former camp deputy wardens, and Nermin Kalember, former camp guard in the same facility.

The suspects were arrested on November 22 this year and they have been remanded in custody since.
