The tourism industry is back on track, and this year is being considered as Croatian tourism's most successful year to date.

During the January-July period, 6.2 million tourists visited the country, according to ministry figures, which represents an 8% increase on the same period during 2010, or an extra 450,000 tourists.

In July alone, some three million tourists were recorded in Croatia, an increase of 4.8% on last year.

In 2010, 10.6 million tourists visited Croatia, mainly to enjoy the Adriatic coast in July and August, while tourism-generated income stood at €6.24 billion.

It was noted that the tourism industry had risen since the 1991-1995 war, but that the global financial crisis led to a fall of 2.5% in tourism during 2009. Despite improvements last year, 2010 witnessed quarterly growth of only 0.3% in the third quarter of 2010.
