CNN has launched a special in-depth coverage program Eye on Macedonia that offers an up-close look at the small Balkan country in an international context.
As part of the program CNN’s Jim Clancy is live every day at 6.30 p.m presenting a special program hosted from different locations in the capital Skopje and across Macedonia.
"Eye on Macedonia" is airing from October 10 to 19 in association with the government funded campaigns “Invest in Macedonia” and “Macedonian Tourism”.
“Macedonia at its geographic location as crossroad between the East and the West is very important country for business, culture and trade,” CNN said in its promotional video clip.
One of the focuses of the coverage is “Skopje 2014”, a government funded project for the Macedonian capital. It “is [an] ambitious project aimed at raising the cultural profile of the capital and to improve the infrastructure,” CNN says.
Efforts to foster much-needed economic development, improve industry and upgrade education and infrastructure are also part of the coverage.
The newly built "Alexander the Great" airport in Skopje is also seen in the coverage and seen by CNN as another window towards bigger economic growth.
CNN portrayed Famous Macedonian Movie Director Milco Mancevski, who gained worldwide fame for his first motion picture, “Before the Rain,” which won the prestigious Golden Lion award for best movie at the Venice Film Festival in 1994 and also competed for an Oscar.
Esma Rexhepova, the legendary Macedonian singer whose extraordinary voice has earned her the title of “Roma Queen” was also portrayed.
So far, CNN's "Eye On..." has presented different countries including France, Germany, Poland, Turkey, India, Oman, Bahrain, Indonesia South Korea, Japan.
Both communities in Kosovo blame politics for the trial of Fatmir Limaj - though from diametrically opposing points of view.
