One hundred former workers of the bankrupt Djakovstina factory spent Wednesday night in front of their former employer’s building, demanding the severance pay they claim they have not been paid over the last two years.
The company went bankrupt two years ago and 350 workers lost their jobs. Since then Djakovstina reportedly owes them 40 million kunas (€5.4 million) in severance payments.
A spokesperson for the workers, Sanja Katic, said that many of them are barely making ends meet.
"We don’t even have enough for bread. It’s not easy to protest at night under the tents, but for us the time is running out."
The workers will continue with the protests until they receive their severance payments, daily 24 Sata writes.
