Bulgaria Wants US Visas Discussed in EU Talks

Bulgaria wants the issue of US visa restrictions brought up in talks between the EU and the US on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership Agreement.

Bulgarian wants the issue of US visas discussed at the Foreign Affairs/Trade Council meeting on June 14 during when ministers will approve the mandate for negotiations between the EU and the US, according to the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency, BTA.

Bulgaria says the current US visa regime for Bulgarians and other EU nationals clashes with the spirit of the future agreement and will hamper the achievement of its goals.

Another topic on the agenda of the talks is related to the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement between the EU and Canada.

Bulgaria welcomes the progress achieved during the talks between the EU and Canada, and sees the Agreement as an opportunity for its own economic operators, the country's European Affairs Council says.

Canada currently applies a visa regime for Bulgarian citizens, obstructing economic, commercial and cultural ties, the European Affairs Council says, adding that Bulgaria will count on the support of European partners to solve the problem.
