Croatian athlete Jakov Fav earned a bronze medal on the second day of events in this year's games, placing third in the men’s 10-kilometre biathlon on Sunday.
Fak is expected to compete for Slovenia in the future due to an agreement between the two countries' Olympic committees. Fak was discovered and trained in Slovenia in exchange for agreeing to compete for Slovenia starting in 2011, according to Croatian media.
According to Novinite, Bulgaria's snowboarding hopeful Alexandra Jekova, who was tipped for one of the few gold medals for the country, has been forced to quit the competition due to injury.
Jekova, 22, was injured during the second training race before the start of the border-cross competition. She took part in the first competition race, but fell and hardly managed to get to the final. Prior to the start of the second race Alexandra was rushed to the hospital.
Novinite also reported that Bulgaria’s top women’s short track racer, Evgeniya Radanova, finished 9th in the 500m race.
Radanova has a silver and a bronze medal from the 2002 Winter Olympics, and a silver medal from the 2006 Winter Olympics. She will compete again on February 21 in the 1,500m short track series.
The Vancouver Winter Olympics end on February 28.
