Following a report from a local resident, police arrested kidnap suspect Adrian Prrenjasi in Tirana’s Lapraka neighborhood and freed the boy who was being held and allegedly abused in his apartment.

“During the house search of the apartment of Adrian Prrenjasi, a rope tied in a noose and a knife were found, which were used by the author to exert physical and psychological violence on the child,” the police said in a statement.

Grilled by investigators, Prrenjasi also confessed to the murder of 11-year-old Julian Cela, who disappeared on November 30 in the same neighborhood.

Police said there was ample evidence tying Prrenjasi to the murder and were working to locate the dead child’s body, which is believed to have being dumped in a Tirana landfill.

Police added that there was evidence that Prrenjasi could have previously abused other minors.

In 2008 he was convicted of briefly detaining another boy, but was only given a fine for illegal imprisonment by Tirana’s district court.

The ministry of justice announced on Monday that it will review the case file.
